Renae Johnson

Artist Statement

For me, art in all its forms is about communicating the emotions, thoughts, desires, needs, and experiences that words cannot adequately portray. As I have delved fully into the psychology of communication through artwork, it has created in me a deep empathy for others with the new ability to witness the subconscious, nonverbal art we all create in our every day.

Based in San Francisco, Renae Johnson is a multi-modality artist. Having studied in the MFA program at Pratt Institute in New York, she has shown her work all over the United States.

In the past several years, Renae has focused on her career as an art therapist, working with adults who suffer from mental illness and addiction.

Currently in the studio, she is working on life-sized sculptures made from broken glass and two-dimensional portraits using print-making and water color techniques.
